Graça Machel Trust (GMT) Vision: Nurture caring societies that value social justice, promote and protect the rights of women and children. Graça Machel Trust Mission: Amplify women’s movements, influence governance and promote women’s contributions and leadership in the economic, social and political development of Africa; and advocate for the protection of children’s rights and dignity. Established in 2010, the Graça Machel Trust draws on our founder’s life’s work as a liberation fighter for political freedom in Africa, global activist for the rights of children and women, and Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) champion. The Trust’s mandate is to build movements to drive transformative change which uplifts women and children. Through GMT's partnership with networks, we have presence in 16 African countries – across South, East and West Africa. Through the Women Economic and Social Advancement Programme we have built four women’s sector-based networks and implement programmes that empower women as entrepreneurs and agents of change.
The Women Creating Wealth Entrepreneurship Accelerator, Ignite, supports businesswomen to realise their potential and pivot their businesses from income generation to more prosperous wealth creation enterprises. Since 2016, with a strategic partnership with Virgin Unite, GMT has implemented the WCW Programme in four African countries – South Africa, Zambia, Tanzania and Malawi, reaching up to 430 businesswomen to date.
